During the second and third week, we were tasked with preparations for our classic and still life shoots as well as creating Heads and Sells for our mock covers (will discuss the progress of our classic shoot in a later post).
Still Life Shoot
Our workshop with Tim served as a valuable resource for a group when coming up with ideas for our Still Life shoots for NAK shoes. For our project, we chose a nude pump and focused our ideas around the company’s stance on sustainable fashionable footwear. Personally, I really gravitated towards their tagline, “Cool to be Kind” and used it for inspiration for my own ideas. For next week, we plan to style our shoots to involve nature, conveying Nak’s positive message and their desire to implore customers to leave a ‘kinder’ footprint on this earth.
In addition, Tim was incredibly supportive of our ideas and showed great enthusiasm for our potential shoot. Coming from an artistic background, I enjoyed hearing him lecture about the connection between art and fashion (which made me start to consider a future career as an art director).
Heads and Sells
One of the most difficult aspects of this project was the head and sell. From my own experiences as a freelance journalist, I tend to leave that part/coming up with a title to the end of my work process. Even during our class exercise, when we were tasked with coming up with ideas for different mood boards, I struggled with coming up with titles with very little context.
Abby and I were in charge of managing ideas for Heads and Sells. It definitely felt like a full-time job as I was actively trying to come up with a long list of ideas – different reiterations of song titles, films, books etc. to capture our cover titles. For those who are able to do this, it is a true talent that should be recognized.
